Do what is right but not what I ask, a poem

When I am in dark don’t give me light
Show me how to make my own, for every night
When I am hungry don’t give me a food
Teach me how to earn, that would do me good

When I am sad, stand by me and wipe my tears
More than that give me strength to fight my fears
When I am happy come laugh and share
But remind me it won’t last so that I take care

When I am in need don’t give me what I want
Let me find what I need so that I can help who can’t
When I am sick don’t totally remove the pain
From those experiences let me learn let me gain

Be there for me not the way I want you to be
But the way that is best for me
I may not understand you today
But will smile and thank you someday
